The Afo people live in the centre of Nigeria north of the confluence of the Benoue and Niger rivers.

Powerful sculptures are attributed to the Afo, especially maternities that include up to three children. These statues, called Okeshi, were used by the Afo during annual fertility festivities.

Stools legs are also made with carved statues that play the role of caryatids style columns.

The faces of Afo statues are decorated with scarification marks forming a pattern of parallel lines, and the figures are either sitting or standing.

In the past, Afo sculptures have been attributed to the Yoruba.
